Camping & mobile home holidays in Picardy

Camping in Picardy means that you can take it relatively easy on the driving, the nearest and most accessible ferry port being Calais just about an hour away.

Picardy is not the most visited part of France for camping holidays, but that is to its advantage because it is so much quieter and the atmosphere so much more laid back. You can more or less taste the quality of air here on one of France's most unspoilt and uninterrupted coastlines, and an area which boasts the largest woodland and forest area in Europe

Amiens in the Somme department is the capital of Picardy, indeed, the river Somme runs through the city which is well worth a visit if only to see the magnificent cathedral, one of the most impressive in the world no less.

The cathedral was first built in 1152, was later destroyed by lightning a few years later but a programme of rebuilding was started in 1220 which lasted 25 years or so. It is worth noting also that Jules Verne is buried in the Madeleine cemetery.

St Valery, or to give the place its proper name, St Valery-sur-Somme is one of the main camping holiday resorts in Picardy, and this town is located at the mouth of the river Somme in the Baie de Somme.

Camping in Picardy is fun with beaches, walks, scenery and lots of history thrown in.

The Millau Viaduct spanning the Tarn Valley is part of the A75-A71 Autoroute (Motorway / Freeway) from Paris to Montpellier, and is located in the Aveyron départment in southern France. The Viaduct toll charge (2013) to cross the bridge is € 6.40 for cars, rising to € 8.20 during the peak summer months of July and August. It has been made “vertigo free” as the road is a good distance from the edge of the bridge so passengers cannot look down from it.
