Camping & mobile home holidays in Croatia

Croatia is an up and coming region for camping holidays, especially in the Istria area in the north of this country which was once called Jugoslavia. The Istria region is really just over the border from Trieste in Italy and though it is a fair old drive from the UK it is manageable, in fact, I have personally (Editor) done this trip a couple of times in my younger days.

Most of the camping holidays in this area are on or near to the coast between Porec and Pula, but if you want a nice day out away from the seaside then Opatija some way inland is well worth a visit. Added to that, ask some of the locals (lots of them have some English) to direct you to one or two of the mountain lakes or Tarns which are an absolute delight to swim in.

The beaches round here – well there are beaches here for all occasions from rocky to sandy, from party beaches to nudist, from romantic beaches to Blue Flag ones to those best for diving and all sorts of watersports. The sea is really excellent, clean, warm and there are all sorts of fish to be seen quite close in to the shore.

Whilst Istria is the most popular part of Croatia for camping and mobile home holidays we must also remember that Dalmatia which is much further south, is also a camping holiday haven, and probably just a tad warmer, though it’s warm enough in Istria for most people.

The Dalmatia region has 3 main cities of Zadar, Split and Dubrovnic, all of which are on the Adriatic coast. These three cities alone will take up several days of your holidays if you felt inclined to do the tour round them.

Otherwise it’s back to the beaches, or why not seek out some of the famous caves which abound throughout Croatia? Some of these are famous but all are worth exploring during your camping holidays here.

The Millau Viaduct spanning the Tarn Valley is part of the A75-A71 Autoroute (Motorway / Freeway) from Paris to Montpellier, and is located in the Aveyron départment in southern France. The Viaduct toll charge (2013) to cross the bridge is € 6.40 for cars, rising to € 8.20 during the peak summer months of July and August. It has been made “vertigo free” as the road is a good distance from the edge of the bridge so passengers cannot look down from it.
