Camping & mobile home holidays in Bretignolles sur Mer, Vendee

Bretignolles-sur-Mer is a seaside village/town on the west coast of France just a few KMs south of St Gilles Croix-de-Vie and roughly 15 KMs north of Les Sables d'Olonne. It may be small but it is a giant compared to the next resort south of here which is called Brem-sur-Mer

Bretignolles-sur-mer has a rocky coastline but wonderful sandy beaches, and as usual there are plenty of water sports on offer here on this part of the Cote de Lumiere, or Coast of Light, and it is in that part of the Vendée which is the nearest location to the UK with reliable hot and sunny weather from May to September, in fact that applies to anywhere south of St Jean de Monts.

The resort lends itself to beach holidays but there are plenty of places to visit if sunbeds and frollicking in the surf begins to pall, in fact, Bretignolles is easily within reach of la Roche sur Yon which is the capital city of the Vendee region.

La Roche has seen plenty of history in it's time and was one of Napoleon's favourite places - at least, it was one of the towns in the Vendee that he managed not to destroy, which must have taken a deal of restraint on his part as he wrecked a considerable amount of this Department. He must have taken quite a shine to the place because in 1804 he decided to rebuild the town, hence the streets are regular and straight, which is most uncommon in France.

To the north of Bretignolles are St Gilles & St Hilaire de Riez both of which are worth a few hours of your time, and further north again is the larger resort of St Jean de Monts, probably the best known town in the Vendee and certainly a super place to spend some time.

Go south from Bretignolles and you reach les Sables d'Olonne which is another reasonable sized town with it's own excellent beaches and plenty of shopping opportunities.
