Camping & Mobile home holidays in Pointe St Gilles & Port de Plaisance, Benodet, south west Brittany
If you held a quiz and asked who knew where Benodet is I can bet that a fair number would say it's somewhere in Spain. Honestly, I have come across that so many times, and by educated people too, which surprised me no end.
Of course, anyone reading a page about camping in Benodet will know that it is on the southwest coast of Finistere in Brittany and bisected by the river Odet which also flows through the nearby ancient city of Quimper, a city which was originally settled by the Romans.
Benodet has been a Mecca for holidaymakers for many years now, especially those taking camping or mobile home vacations, and it is easily accessed via most of the northern French ferry ports such as Roscoff, St Malo, Caen and Cherbourg.
Just down the road, or should I say just round the bay from Benodet lies Beg-Meil which is another well know camping holiday resort on the edge of the Baie de la Foret opposite Concarneau which is probably the busiest fishing port in France.
Just a few KMs west of Benodet lies the town of Pont l’Abbe which is packed with historical monuments and part of whose castle dates back from the 14th century up until the 18th. Notre-Dame des Carmes church is very old church which was built between 1383 and 1420 in the Gothic style. Lots more of the same in Pont l’Abbe so it is well worth taking time out from your camping holiday to make a visit.
In conclusion we can say with certainty that Benodet and the area surround it is an absolute delight, and an added bonus for holidaymakers to the region is that it is so near to several major ferry ports.
